New Haven County's Fuoco Apizza, located in the town of Cheshire at 461 West Main St., was the subject of Barstool's Dave Portnoy's newest review posted online on Monday, June 12.

The pizzeria, owned by George Constanti, prides itself on offering authentic New Haven-style coal-fired pizza as an option for people who don't want to drive all the way to the Elm City.

It's clear that Constanti has accomplished this, as in his review, Portnoy said the pizza was superior to anything else in the area.

"We've done nine or ten reviews in the New Haven area; this is the best-looking pie I've seen yet," Portnoy said upon taking his first gaze at the pizza.

His praise continued after he tried a slice.

"This is my favorite pizza of the whole trip," he said, adding, "Basically spectacular pizza - I loved it."

Portnoy finished his review by bestowing the pizzeria a whopping score of 8.5 out of 10.

Upon hearing the high score, Constanti expressed his excitement and gratitude to Portnoy.

"I came here to prove a point that I can do it too," Constanti said of his pizzeria, continuing, "I've been doing it all my life. I love what I do."

The delicious pizza from Fuoco did not come without hardship, as the pizzeria burned down in late 2021 after opening in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Constanti also lost his father the same year as the fire, he said.

Still, he was able to rebuild after taking a year off and come back better than ever, as evidenced by Portnoy's review.

Portnoy is not the only one to rave about the location, as Fuoco also has received plenty of positive reviews on Yelp.

"I don't often drive 80 miles round trip for a pizza, but I was pretty confident that Fuoco Apizza was going to be a Winner. And it was," wrote Tom D. of New Hartford.

"Fuoco is on par with the Best in New Haven. I ordered a large traditional mozzarella, so I could better gauge the quality of the pie. It was pizza perfection, the crust had the right chew, and the char was to my liking," he continued in his five-star review.

Alex W. of Prospect also gave the pizzeria high marks, writing, "Fucoc keeps on hitting the spot!! Always the perfect flavors, cooked perfectly, never floppy or soggy!!"

The pizzeria currently opens every day of the week besides Mondays.
